Chemeketa Park Mutual Water Company has levels of Total Trihalomethanes and Haloacetic Acids Above Drinking Water Standards

Chemeketa Park Mutual Water Company water system recently failed a drinking water standard. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what you should do, what happened, and what we are doing to correct this situation.

We routinely monitor for the presence of drinking water contaminants. Testing results we received on November 19, 2025 through May 18, 2026, show that our system exceeds the standard, or maximum contaminant level (MCL), for Total Trihalomethanes(TTHM) and Haloacetic Acids (HAA5). The MCL standards for TTHM and HAA5 are 80 ug/L and 60 ug/L respectively. The average level of TTHM over the last year was 82 ug/L. The average level of Haloacetic Acids over the last year was 89 ug/L.

What should I do?

  • You do not need to use an alternative (e.g., bottled) water supply.
  • This is not an immediate risk. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately. However, some people who drink water containing trihalomethanes or haloacetic acids in excess of the MCL over many years may experience liver, kidney, or central nervous system problems, and may have an increased risk of getting cancer.
  • If you have other health issues concerning the consumption of this water, you may wish to consult your doctor.

What is being done to remedy the situation:

We have prepared and submitted a Correction Action Plan to the State designed to correct the violations identified. We have implemented increased monitoring for the constituents indicated, implemented weekly flushing and optimized disinfection dosing. We are optimistic that these measures will support our goal to ensure Chemeketa Park MWC delivers water to consumers that meet drinking water standards.
